Oh how nice it would be to have a wardrobe that is complete, well wardrobe. I am consently working on my wardrobe, there are still items I want or need to add to my wardrobe to create the look I want.
I want to share with you my tips on how you can build your capsule wardrobe. I’ve created a guide below so you can use whether from scratch or from what you already have in your wardrobe. First step would be to pull everything off the rack. When you begin creating your capsule wardrobe, your ultimate goal is to create a selection of clothing, accessories, shoes, and bags that can be mix ‘n’ match on a daily basis.
Each item should be something that you would wear often, with the items that you had as “just in case” to put in the donate pile. In creating your new wardobe will make getting dress more fun and easier, and you will find it easier to switch up your style or add in new on trend pieces when you already have the basics in your wardrobe.
Following below I have put together my tips on getting started in creating your capsule wardrobe.
1. It Starts with Finding What’s Your Style.
Finding what your style is can be challenging at first. Style is how you put an outift and accessories together, and how you wear them. However you should have some idea on how to discribe the way you dress, do you like wearing more casual or do you love dressing up? or both? Classic dresses, denim, bright tones, earthy tones, pastals or even prints or maybe lace or soft fabric? To help to give you ideas, start by looking at magazines, or a movie character that you admire, this will allow you to discribe their style. I find my style is a mix, I like my denim and I like the fifity style dresses.
2. Learn How To Choose Your Colour Palette.
To help you to choose your colour palette is by looking at your current colours that you enjoy wearing, it also helps to have a search for colours that suit your skin tone/ hair colour. To help you learn more about your colour palette is to book a consult with a colour consultant. I would recommend to have no more than four colours to mix ‘n’ match, and have black and white to add. I like to different shades of blues and pinks.
3. Time to Add Some Textures & Prints.
Now that you have established your colour palette, you will find it easy to add some textured or print fabric. It is essential to have denim, always make sure you have comfortable jeans in both black and blue. I recommend adding in something stripey as well. Then add in textures and prints that will fit in your style. If you are leaning more towards the feminine style or more chic classic style, you might like to have some lace and sequines.
4. Adding The Basics.
It is essential to add the basic items to your wardrobe, which are those everyday staples that won’t go wrong. The basic items are Tees, Camis, denim, leather jacket, skirts, cardigan and LBD (little black dress) All these should be investment pieces, as they are items that will never go out of fashion. To find good quality basics is shop for items that will not fade, or fall apart easy.
5. Selecting Shoes
The selection of shoes I recommend to add are the staples you need. They include a pair of sneakers, ballet flats, wedges, nude heels, beige sandals, black heels, black sandals, black heeled boots. You will never struggle to not have enough shoes if you have them in your wardrobe. I have a obession for shoes, especially boots.
6. Time to Accessories.
Now the fun part is to find accessories to add to your wardrobe. Choose pieces that fit in with your style and personality. I personally like to have a classic black handbag, a few simple earrings, necklace and sunglasses. I would also recommend having a clutch is handy to have for those nights out.
7. Time to Personalise Your Wardrobe Space.
Now that you have created your capsule style, time to organise your wardrobe to make it easy to find what to wear, and to make it exciting. My opinion is to have garmet hangers that match for example I like using black felt hangers, and like to have my wardrobe in colour coordinate or in categories like skirts, shirts, jeans and cardigans/jackets, this makes it easy to find what you looking for. Have your under garmets in draws with dividers, and have your favourited accessories on display, and have shoes on shoe racks.
Once you have completed these steps, you will now have your very own capsule wardrobe with your unique style to compliment your personality. Hope this makes it exciting for you.
